She died

You came back about
a month ago, two years
after you left the country.
It was only six months
after the wedding and
still you wonder what
happened to your merry bride?
I see you looking at me curiously
from the corner of your eye
as you cuddle the child
you've only just seen.
You haven't said a thing,
but I know you're thinking it.
What happened
to the girl you left behind?
The one who adored you,
who worshipped the
very ground you trod.
The girl who would have
given heaven and earth
just to make you happy.
Husband mine; she died.
In her place is a woman.
Birthed by a lonely heart,
in a cold bed, amidst the
night shadows of a bleak room.

  1. Good one here though sad.

Tiz true we do not realise how much we adore our loved ones until they leave.

  3. Scotchie told me to come here several times. I should have listened earlier. I should listen more.

But was she the chaste wife?

  5. I'd not leave home at a time like that. Kids grow awfully fast at that age, and you don't want to be missing from your daughter's life when she is forming. You want to be imprinted in there, you know ...
And maybe marriages are like daughter's also ... dunno.

  6. i just read it again and seen just how easily you can have conceived the girl to be the daughter. i didnt really mean it that way. when he went, he'd left his wife, still a girl. but when he came back. he found a woman. 'she grew up'. (i know, its like the poem before).loneliness does that to you. especially if you have to bring up a child alone.but it could esaily have been a daughter as well.
